Bata-ville's Early Development • Travel Agency At the Agency's opening reception Nina was joined by Karen Guthrie, both in uniforms copied from those of 1950's Bata factory guides. It was a popular event attended by about 60 people, many with Czech connections. Some visitors braved the driving rain for a tour of the local area, others ate cake, looked at the displays and drank tea in the comfort of the Travel Agency, located in the wood-lined former director's office at the heart of one of the former factory buildings. During the Travel Agency opening period, Karen Guthrie began to research the Maryport Bata community in Cumbria, making contact with former workers and hosting a unique Bata reunion in the town at which Nina and Karen invited applications for the planned coach trip. |
