The 3 Tomas Batas
There have in fact been 3 Tomas Batas, two of which we met during Bata-ville:
• Tomas Bata (1876 -1932), the founder of Bata, aka 'Tomas Bata Snr' - killed in a plane crash before Bata developed its UK factories.
• T(h)omas J. Bata (born 1914), his son, confusingly known as 'Tomas Bata Jnr' - was CEO of Bata Limited for over 40 years and spent considerable periods in the UK at East Tilbury and Maryport.
• Today, Thomas G. Bata (born 1948) is currently the Chairman of Bata. We think he's known as just 'Tom'.
